Preparing for Climate Change
July 28, 2010 Savannah, GA
The Earth's changing climate is the biggest environmental challenge facing us. While much effort is going into slowing climate change, it is also important that we prepare for the changes ahead, many of which are already with us.
In this practical and relevant training designed for planners and decision-makers, participants heard from experts about climate impacts to Southeast Atlantic shorelines and left with specific action steps to prepare for climate change in their work. The training covered the fundamentals of how to plan for climate change, how to conduct a vulnerability assessment, how local regulations could address climate change, and how other governments are taking on the challenge of preparing for climate change. Participants also became familiar with key data sources and learned specific strategies for engaging stakeholders in climate change preparedness. Finally, the training included several exercises designed to help you consider possible climate vulnerabilities and adaptation strategies in your community.
