GIS for Local Officials
The Sapelo Island NERR Coastal Training and Stewardship Programs, together with their partnering agencies, are striving to support the efforts of coastal managers in watershed, conservation, hazards, and ocean planning through training, tool development, demonstration projects, and dissemination of technical information.
This one-day course is part of the effort to fill the technical needs and increase the capacities of the coastal management community in Georgia. This coarse focuses on the basics of ArcGIS's Geodatabase storage model. Geodatabases are a relatively new method to store spatial data and it takes advanatage of ArcGIS's feature and attribute validation rules. Spatial data stored in a Geodatabase can be more accurate and reliable than other traditional data storgae models. This course explores the pros and cons of storing data within the Geodatabase and proper techniques. At the conclusion of this course, students are able to:
- Concert existing spatial data into a Geodatabase structure.
- Develop the proper schema for new Geodatabases.
- Set attribution and feature validation rules for data capture and editing.
- Understand the benefits of using this storage model over traditional ones.
